Z. Gevorkian
I think of my work as a story—with chapters still in progress.
Along with my years of experience as a Creative Director I'm also a professor at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, where I've been teaching for almost 20 years. When I'm not working, I play music, enjoy a game of chess, surf when it’s hot, snowboard when it’s cold, and live in the world I create for.
Want to know more? Sure. I got my first nickname at chiat/day. I started as an intern so the Nissan account team was so excited that they vocalized how they had a new bitch. They didn’t know I overheard as they approached me. I decided to show them rather than talk a talk. After knocking it out of the park my new nickname became Z. It was my first creative piece that got produced. I remember it like yesterday-I was on my way to vegas when my brother brought to my attention the gravitas of the situation. I had just gotten my first piece produced. The second idea that got produced was PlayStation. My nickname solidified as I made things and presented to clients. It was my first taste of client facing moments.
My second nickname was Captain Z. I got that from Razorfish San Francisco from a very talented CD. The ECD eventually dubbed me “lucky rabbits foot”. Followed by Z-machine by my team. Next nickname came from the director of new business of Rosetta that later became Razorfish LA- he knighted me as “rocket fuel”. Later, my GCD dubbed me “the legend of Z”.
I love all my nicknames. They’re like chapters in my creative life. I was very fortunate to have worked with these very talented and smart people. That’s the kind of stuff that molds you. That’s the kind of stuff that stays with you. Now I’m writing a new chapter and I’m looking forward to posting in my portfolio.
